Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS): What Manufacturers Need to Know to Be Compliant

May 28 @ 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Maryland manufacturers are facing new energy compliance requirements under the state’s Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS), with a key reporting deadline of September 1, 2025. To support compliance, Maryland MEP, partnered with CQI Associates are presenting this webinar for all impacted manufacturers.

This session will walk participants through completing the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Exception Document, designed to help facilities demonstrate compliance or request exemptions. With the right guidance, most manufacturers should be able to submit the document on their own— and this webinar will ensure you’re prepared!

New Utility Grid Rate Increases:

In addition to BEPS compliance, manufacturers should be aware of the utility grid rate increase passed in May 2024. Effective June 2025, commercial electricity rates will increase by 2 to 4 cents per kWh. This change impacts all commercial accounts and will likely affect fixed-price supply contracts due to a “change in law” clause. We will provide an update on how this will affect energy planning, budgeting, and long-term contracts.

What Can you Expect:

  • Step-by-step guidance for filling out the MDE Exception Document
  • How BEPS applies to Maryland’s manufacturing sector
  • Key deadlines and documentation tips ahead of the September 1, 2025 reporting requirement
  • Overview of the 2024 utility rate increase and its projected impact
  • Tools and recommendations to reduce energy use and manage cost increases
  • Live Q&A with compliance and energy experts
